Password Check
Windows Tip: Lose the Password Check
Make Win 98's password screen disappear
Do you find the screen that asks for your username and password every stinkin' time Windows boots up quite the annoyance? You can turn it off. Frankly, it's a grand thing if you're not attached to a LAN.
First off, if you initially configured a password for yourself, Win 98 will always require it. If you don't want to delete that password, download the Power Toys Tweak UI utility and install it.

Double click on Tweak UI to launch it, choose the Network tab, and check log on automatically at system startup. Heads up to security freaks, though. Tweak UI doesn't encrypt your stored password, which means that anybody can view it in your registry.
If you don't have a password configured for yourself, open up the Control Panel/Network icon. Choose the Windows logon. From the Primary Network Logon list, choose Windows Logon and press OK.
You shouldn't have a password configured for this. If you do, open the Passwords icon in the control panel, and leave it blank to remove the password.
