Mac Tip
![]() ![]() ![]() Mac Tip: Memory Boost Improves Printing One of the biggest sources of ire for Mac users is the printing process. Printing is supposed to happen in the background while you go on with your work, but what it really does is slow everything down, or hang up the works entirely. How many times have you clicked on that blinking application menu, only to find a little black diamond next to the PrintMonitor? That's your system crying out "Help me, I'm hung up and don't know what to do!!" You can alleviate problems like these by adjusting the memory settings. A good rule of thumb; triple or even quadruple the memory allocated to the Print Monitor and Desktop Print Monitor. Find your PrintMonitor and Desktop PrintMonitor (why the duplication? I don't know-- if you do, let me know, OK? ) and choose Get Info (CMD-I). At the bottom of the Info Box, you'll see an area labeled Memory Requirements. The suggested size cannot be changed, but the other two settings can. First click in the preferred size box and enter a number three times larger than what it suggests. Then, click in the minimum size box, and double the suggested amount. It's important to do it in this order, because your Mac will refuse to have a minimum size higher than the preferred. |
